Plus you have to understand exactly what is going on with your swing, so you can utilize the appropriate drills. So think about whether you are having issues with your backswing, downswing, follow-through, stance, or anything else.
Let Your Clubs Help
Whether or not you are having problems shuffling your feet during your swing, you can at least make sure. These golf swing drills revolve around grabbing two of your irons and placing on in front of your left foot and one behind or your right foot (vice versa for lefties). Your main objective will be to place it on the right side of the ball, and about an inch away. Obviously you don’t want to hit the prop. It makes you keep your club-face closed, and allow for straighter hits.
One thing to understand is that no matter which one of these golf swing drills you try, there will be a few obstacles along the way. Just remember that this is part of the learning process and it will take many bad results to get the positive ones you’re looking for in your swing.
The good news is, these golf swing drills work. We understand there a little outside of the box, but sometimes that is what you need in order to be successful.

How to Figure Out the Issues

If you are unaware of what a golf swing path is, it’s simply the route your club travels before eventually hitting through the ball. While everyone has a different golf swing path, on an individual note you should have the same one throughout each swing. If you don’t, your ball could reach every part of the course and leave you as irritated as can be.
The Backswing
Your first part of the golf swing path is having the proper backswing. To be honest, we can’t give you a specific backswing to use because it may not be your best option. Instead, we can tell you that you do need to have one that is fluent and doesn’t require thought. Your backswing should become second nature and if it isn’t, then you know it is part of the problem.
A couple things to look at while dealing with this area is your shift in weight, your elbow, and your chin tuck. Each particular area or just one of them may be causing your golf swing path to be all out of whack. So whatever you’ve been taught about each one to this point should be looked at thoroughly.
Check to this if your ball is going left, right, it’s too short, or anything else. Any of these could be a sign on how to properly adjust one particular area. For instance if you are continually pushing the ball to the left, your elbow probably isn’t staying tucked into place. If your ball has no control whatsoever, the shift in weight is probably a huge issue.
The Downswing
Again, this area of your golf swing path revolves around shifting your weight, the pause at the top of your swing right before, and your elbow. There are other variables as well, but we want to keep focusing on these three today. However, that pause which everyone talks about can be just as bad.
What do you think about when you’re in your pause? Hopefully nothing, but when you’re practicing we recommend completely stopping there. Look to see how your body is aligned before the downswing. Does anything look different? Utilizing this little tip can give you an inside look at something you may have missed before.
In fact, we recommend going through your golf swing path in slow motion. Except when you do this, make sure it’s the right way. Don’t be afraid to even knock the ball off the mat or tee in the process. The next time around, speed up your tempo a bit.
Are you able to keep the same form? Then try to make a normal swing and see if your form is the same. Not only will this allow you to find the problem, it will also help you make the right adjustment for your golf swing path.
Golf Stretches
Don’t Overlook the Obvious

It’s safe to say that there are a ton of injuries that occur in golf. Whether an individual ends up with back problems, pulls a muscle during the swing or anything else, it’s usually because they didn’t do any golf stretches before playing. Oh, and if you think simply placing a club between your arms and behind your back is enough, think again.
Just like any other sport, the better you warm up your muscles with golf stretches, the easier it will be to make each hit. In fact, the next time you go out and don’t stretch, keep track of any discomforts you feel throughout your round. When you go out again, stretch before you play and you will definitely notice the difference. In the meantime, we’re going to give you a few options to help you get started.
Bend-overs
Since the back is one of the most common injury areas amongst golfers, it’s wise to do some bend-overs. It’s as easy as spreading your legs a bit and trying to touch the ground. Granted, most of us can’t even come close to touching it, but you will still be able to stretch those muscles.
Push-Lifts
Another way to work on the back is by lying on your stomach and just pushing up the front half of your body. You will notice pressure on the lower back area. If you can utilize both of these golf stretches you can loosen up your back for those twists and turns throughout the round. Plus, afterwards the area won’t be as sore.
Knee Tucks
Your hamstrings are going to be utilized a lot throughout a round, so it’s important to stretch those out. While walking the course will help, doing a few knee tucks will allow them to stretch a bit more. While you’re standing, just try to bring your knee as high up as you can, then hold the position.
When you bring it back down, don’t forget to do the other one. Taking the time to do this will allow you more balance throughout your swings, and allow you to shift your weight accordingly. These golf stretches will be a major piece to your overall score.
Neck Pulls
Most people forget about how important it is to stretch the neck. So we thought we would add it in here today. Just stand tall and take your right hand and pull your head as far to the right as you can. Hold the position for anywhere from 10-15 seconds, then release. You should do this in all directions (North, South, East, and West).
You will find that your golf swing doesn’t feel nearly as uncomfortable, especially in your backswing. Plus, if you provide golf stretches in each direction, this will protrude down into your backbone and shoulder area. It’s one of the most overlooked golf stretches out there, but it makes a huge difference.
There are many other golf stretches to choose from, but these are a big part to different aspects of the game. Our recommendation is to do them before you even drive to the course. Loosening up before getting into the car will make you feel a lot better getting out. Plus, while you’re at the course you can use some of the normal golf stretches everyone else does…without the embarrassment.

Have you ever been playing in a foursome and one of your partners has a much shorter golf club length then their body suggests? They probably looked like they were playing with a kids set of golf clubs. While in this case they probably just wanted to go out and have some fun, they were at a major disadvantage before they even stepped in the first tee box.
While this is the extreme, even the slightest differential to what your body should be using can make all the difference in your score. The golf club length should be a perfect fit so you can get the most distance and accuracy possible. So today we wanted to give you a few tips that will help you figure out what works best for you.
The Normal Golf Club Length
Anytime you go out and purchase a set of golf clubs, the standard length is for a male who is 5′10″ tall. Now, it’s safe to say that the majority of us are either taller or shorter, which means these aren’t the kind of golf club length we need. No matter what side of 5′10″ you’re on, it can have a major impact on your game.
For instance, if you’re shorter then you will have to setup further away from the ball. Plus, your club-head may provide more divots then you are normally used to seeing. The end result is you end up with less distance, and unfortunately less control over your ball.
Then again, if you’re a lot taller you will notice various differences. For instance your address to the ball will mean crouching down. If you don’t stay in this position from backswing to follow-through, you could wind up with a big whiff. Unless you’re out there playing with mulligans, this is definitely not what you want to see.
Plus it’s possible that the shorter golf club length could provide a different impact on the ball. So instead of hitting it in the “sweet spot,” you could be coming over top of it. This results in less loft, possible chili-dippers, and an irritation like no other.
Our Recommendation
All we can say is you need the appropriate golf club length for your height. When you’re purchasing a new set of clubs, don’t be afraid to get them customized. Some areas will offer this as a bonus to your purchase, while others may charge a fee. Whatever the case may be, you don’t want to spend $500-$1000 on a set, and end up struggling with your game.
So make sure the golf club length is the right fit for you. If you don’t, your overall scores will continue to rise.

Outside of 3-putting, trying to cure a slice is probably the most irritating thing in golf. People tell you to fix your grip, but you still slice. They tell you to change stances, you still slice. You go out, purchase new clubs, new golf balls, and after all of it, you still slice. However, there are ways to control that golf swing slice.
One thing you have to understand is when you’re told how to fix a golf swing slice; it might not be your best choice. There are tons of different ways to do this, and what works for one person, may not work for another. So today, instead of saying, “This is what you NEED to do,” we’re going to give you some choices that might help.
Take a Look at your Grip
Even though everyone has a different grip, it is a great place to start if you want to correct your golf swing slice. When you’re at the driving range, don’t be afraid to play around with your grip. Let’s face it, golf can be one of the most frustrating hobbies in the all the world. No matter how hard you try to perfect your swing, there is always something out of sync. Well it seems that way for the most part, until of course you have that beautiful drive off the tee and wonder, “Why can’t I do that all the time?”
The truth is your golf swing technique plays a crucial role in everything surrounding your golf game. Just like baseball players have the same mechanics and bowlers have the same approach, a golfer needs to learn that good, repetitive swing. We understand this is easier said then done, but today we ant to help you find yours.
Understanding the Swing
Before you can come to the ultimate golf swing technique, you have to understand its 3 parts. You have your back swing, your down swing, and the follow through. Each one of these sections need focus and must be fluent in order to be successful. Getting a better feel for what each one does will give you several opportunities to bring about a better technique.
Start with Your Stance and Grip
Remember, whenever you line up the ball, your stance should be the same every time. Well, when you’re a professional you can provide various stances for different shots, but to the casual golfing your feet should be apart and in a straight line with your shoulders. You should also bend your knees just a bit so when your body shifts the weight during the backswing, you’re able to keep your balance.
When it comes to grip, it can’t be too tight or too loose. No matter what type of grip you use, it should be the same everytime. We recommend starting with a simple interlock if your scores aren’t where you want them to be. The idea here is to provide your wrists with enough action through the swing. Without it you will be uncomfortable and stiff.
Practicing while Playing
A good way to perfect your golf swing technique is to practice while you’re playing. No, we don’t mean standing off to the side swinging over and over again while someone in your group is trying to make a shot. Instead, when you come across an appropriate time (for instance in the fairway, away from others or on the turn), it can make it more comfortable.
Boost your Fitness Levels
We all know John Daly can hit a mammoth of a shot off the tee, but it’s not all about the drive. The more flexibility and strength you have, the easier it will be to control your swing, your movements, and your balance. Granted, everyone likes a longer drive and this will help, but your goal should be to produce lower scores.
One of the best areas to focus in on from the start is your mid-section. This will allow you to twist and turn much easier, and will keep your back strong. Ever noticed all the golfers who end up with back problems? Most of it is due to a lack of strength in their mid-section.
While each one of these is helpful to find your own golf swing technique, they are only the beginning to all of the ones available. The more you learn about swinging a golf club, the easier it will be to build the best golf swing technique for you.
Golf Terminology
Understanding Golf Lingo

Even if you’ve been playing this sport for years, the golf terminology can be difficult to understand. If by chance you’re just getting started in the game of golf, we definitely recommend getting a better feel for the lingo. It will allow you to understand the game better, and sound like you’re a veteran at the same time. There are several minor expressions that will be easy to understand, but there are others that are more difficult. We’ll start with those first.
Moment of Inertia
If you hear someone talking about the “moment of inertia,” they are referring to your golf clubs. Moment of inertia a golf terminology expression used to talk about the clubs ability to resist angular movement. This deals with the impact your club face makes on the ball. The idea is to have a good connection as opposed to coming off the center as you swing through the ball.
Spin Rate
If you hear the expression “spin rate,” then the individual is talking about the amount of speed your golf ball rotates while in flight. Why is this important? The faster the spin rate, the higher your ball will go and the faster it will stop. Most of the time, this is used when people are hitting wedges and long irons into the green.
Coefficient of Restitution
The scientific approach to coefficient of restitution deals with the energy that is transferred from the club to the ball during impact. The golf terminology here is more complex than most, but it’s definitely important to understand. If you’re training and your coach refers to it, they are talking about the ball velocity. The higher your COR, the more ball velocity you will create. It all revolves around a formula, but that is for another time.
Swing Weight
One thing to understand about swing weight is that it’s not referring to how much your club weighs while holding it. What this is referring to is how it feels during the swing. There are ratios involved here between the end of the club (club head), and the top (grip end). If you notice a heavier swing, then your club head has a much different weight then the grip area. If it’s lighter then expect the opposite.
Spring-Like Effect
Earlier we talked about the golf terminology revolving around COR or coefficient of restitution. The spring-like effect refers the clubface’s ability to flex during impact. If it is very forgiving and allows more control, then it helps to give you a better COR. This isn’t used too often, and usually deals with metal woods.
Okay, after these we’re probably making your head hurt. If this is your first time around golf terminology or trying to learn more about it, you will find that most of it isn’t as scientific as the ones we mentioned above. We understand that it might be embarrassing to tell someone you don’t know what a birdie or eagle is, so we’re going to cover this side as well.
Par
A term that is used in golf when a player works a ball off the tee, and in the cup in the average number of hits. So for instance if you are playing a par 4 hole and it takes you 4 times to hit the ball in the hole, then you’ve scored a par.
Birdie
This is simply when you are able to get the golf ball in the cup 1 less time then whatever par is for that particular hole. So if you’re on a par 4 and make it in the hole in 3 shots, then you’ve scored a birdie.
Eagle
This is considered to be 2 shots under par on any hole. Most eagles are made on par 5s since some golfers can reach the green in 2. If you putt the ball in the cup on your 3rd shot, you’ve made an eagle.
Making the Turn
When you reach this point you are half way through an 18 hole course. It’s in between the 9th and 10th holes. You will notice that this half ends close to the clubhouse so you can purchase refreshments, food, or supplies before heading back out.
Drivers, Woods, Irons, Wedges and Putters
Often times you find golf terminology that deals with everything else but what you’re holding in your hand. Drivers are what most people use to hit the ball off the tee and provide the longest distance (if you can control it). Woods like the 3, 5, and 7 (sometimes 9) are normally used either off the tee in certain situations and when trying to reach a par 5 from a long distance.
Irons are simply those clubs that offer everything from longer distances (3, 4, 5, and 6-irons) to intermediate distances (7 or 8-irons) and shorter distances (9 iron). There are various ways to use these but it’s for another time.
Wedges and putters are what the average golfer uses from 130 yards into and around the green. Obviously the putter is what you use on the green to putt the ball in the hole. Each wedge’s ability to lift the ball in the air is different, so you might want to look that up as well.
We could go on and on, but this will be enough to help you get started. The 2nd half of the golf terminology we provided will be utilized more around the course and with friends or family. The 1st half you won’t normally hear unless you’re with professionals, coaches, trainers, or if you read information on the club. In the end, if you can get a handle on the golf terminology, you will make the game much more enjoyable.
